The Lowen’s Butter Balm Story

This is the product that started it all… the inspiration for it’s creation, our daughter Lowen and her severe diaper rash.  Originally called Lowen Butter Bum Balm. Not only did it work extremely well on her rash but people began telling us how amazing it was when used for rash, dry cracked skin (see cuticles, heels, working hands, etc.), chafing, eczema and psoriasis.  We started marketing it toward all of these uses much to the delight (and relief) of our friends suffering with ongoing skin issues. We are always looking for ideas on how to re-purpose our products so please let us know if you have any new uses for us!

Directions: Apply liberally to a clean and dry diaper area as needed.

Bum Balm Blues should be applied with every diaper change when a resistant rash is present and can also be used for overnight applications (or long road trips).  Again, if you are introducing new foods into your baby’s diet, not a bad idea to put our Bum Balm Blues in play to prevent a nasty rash down the line. For babies that are particularly prone to skin irritation, using Bum Balm Blues as your regular diaper balm with every change can really help!

  • For external use only
  • Avoid contact with eyes
  • Consult a healthcare practitioner if symptoms worsen or last for more than 7 days
  • Net Wt. 75 grams/2.5 ounces or 10 grams/0.3 ounces
  • Unscented (any scent is due solely to our ingredients)
  • As always: Cruelty Free (we only test on willing humans)

AMAZING stuff! Cleared up my newborn’s diaper rash within hours! Only took 2 applications and she stopped crying during diaper changes. My newborn also pooped constantly while this product gave me a few hours in between each diaper change with absolutely ZERO consequences (ie. diaper rash) because of it’s protective properties. I have been telling everyone who will listen about this brand now.

This stuff is amazing, works wonders. Prevents and rapidly clears up diaper rash. My daughter started getting diaper rash from a young age, and balm balm blues has helped keep her and her little backside happy (and me too!). Love Lowen’s products and the thought that goes into making them!

I have four children 8 years and younger and I’m currently pregnant with my fifth (I’ve seen my share of bums, poop and rashes )
I started on my health product journey when my first son was born 8 years ago. Since that time, I have tried out a LOT of “safe healthy” baby bum lotions! All of them were good at conditioning the bottoms and preventing a diaper rash, but on the occasions that a diaper rash DID set in, NONE of them were able to clear it up. I always had to switch back to penetin (drug store brand) to completely heal their rashes, and then go back to the “healthy safe” bum creams. Loewen’s baby bum cream is the FIRST natural/ safe/healthy product I have used that actually healed my children’s rashes!!!
I didn’t have to switch back to penetin! Yes, it is pricier than any regular drugstore baby lotion, but it is one of those things that I have factored into our financial budget and I am so thrilled to use it!!
    You won’t regret purchasing it!

This is hands down the best diaper cream out there. My son had super sensitive skin and this is the only cream that ever made his rash go away. It’s our go to cream, we have the travel size and the larger size. Well worth it!

So my daughter has been having a rash that wouldn’t go away for months now. We changed butt creams, diapers, body wash and it would go away for a day or two but then come back. For the past few days I’ve been putting this balm on and the damaged skin already looks much better. I wish I had bought the big package right away. That being said, I did stop using store bought wipes at approximately the same time so maybe that has also had an effect on the skin. One thing’s for sure, I plan to buy more of this balm.

Received a container of this cream as a gift last year and I am hooked! It works so quickly and a container lasts so long! I love that there are no harsh chemicals going onto my little ones skin.

  9. Kaila DaCosta (verified owner)

My son has super sensitive skin. Like touch him and it turns red. So, we have tried many many brands of diaper cream. This is by far my favorite. Clears it fast and use ongoing as a preventative a couple times a week. Plus it’s a clean product! Mom win!

    Hello Danielle.

    Thank you for your question.

To answer it, we will need to make a number of assumptions.  In this case, we are assuming the "water based ingredient" you are referring to is the witch hazel distillate AKA "Hammamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water."  If this is correct, in looking at our ingredient list, your thought process is that our Bum Balm Blues ("Blues") contains a lot of water, and by virtue of this, requires broad spectrum preservation.

Your rationale for inquiring is certainly sound.

However, Blues does not contain an abundance of this ingredient, so correspondingly, the water content is low.  As well, in the manufacturing process, heat is applied to melt the beeswax and coconut oil (all the ingredients are heated), and as part of this heating process, most, if not all, of the water evaporates, leaving the active ingredient.

Finally, to address your concerns about preservation, unrefined beeswax, zinc oxide, linolenic and linoleic acid (AKA omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids - found in abundance in the camelina and non-gmo canola oil we use) in addition to the medium chain triglycerides in the coconut oil in our formula all have antimicrobial activity.  Should you have interest in this primary literature supporting these claims, we are happy to share it with you.  Please email us at info@lowens.ca to learn more.

Thank you again for investing your time into some due diligence of our formula and let us know if you have any follow up questions.
